FAQ's

Why do the horses need to be rescued?

For many different reasons, sometimes the numbers have built up to an unsustainable level, sometimes the drought has become so bad there is not enough water and animals are suffering. Sometimes land changes hands and the new owners want the horses removed.

Aren’t the horses happier left alone running wild and free?

It is a lovely ideal that horses running free are happy, the reality is that many wild horses suffer from lack of food and water and live for many years with debilitating injuries. Seasons are sometimes good enabling numbers to increase and in the following years if the seasons are bad horses will die from lack of food and/or water. It is a pretty tough life in the Australian desert.

What happens to the horses that are captured?

We sell the horses for the price of their capture. In many cases the horses need to be transported hundreds of kilometres, with the price of fuel this can add up to quite a bit. The average horse sells for between $800- $2000, depending on the distance travelled and the time spent educating the horse.

Can I buy a wild horse, and if so how?

Yes, you can have your name added to our list of interested buyers and when a rescue is about to take place you will be contacted.
